How to create a logo for your startup

  1. 01

    Name it and describe it.

Enter your startup's name and one sentence about what it does. That sentence steers icon and style choices.

  2. 02

    Pick a direction.

You get logo directions built from the research — icon + wordmark, wordmark only, or letter-mark — in the structures tech brands use most.

  3. 03

    Choose your icon and colors.

Icons are designer-made, not generated pixels. Colors follow a system (primary, accent, neutrals) so the logo works on dark and light backgrounds.

  4. 04

    Download and use it.

PNG and SVG source, symbol and wordmark versions, color and font specs. One-time $99. No subscription.

What a startup logo needs to get right (from the data)

  • Structure: icon + text. 72% of the tech logos we analyzed pair an icon with the name; 21% are text-only, 6% icon-only. An icon gives you a favicon, an app icon and a social avatar for free.
  • Typeface: sans-serif. 93%. Serif and script fonts read as consumer or luxury, not software.
  • Case: lowercase or normal case. 42% all-lowercase, 48% normal case, only 10% all-caps. Two-word names are never split (Hotjar, not Hot Jar).
  • Color: start with black. 51% of the logos are black. When brands use color, it's blue (18%), orange (10%) or green (8%). A black logo plus one accent color is the safest launch identity.
  • Icon: simple, but not a circle. 67% of icons go beyond basic shapes; 30% are built from the first letter. Letter-marks scale well to 16px.

Beyond the logo

A logo alone doesn't launch a company. Visual Branding ($199) adds the favicon, social covers, hero and OG images, business cards, email signature and a brand book. Full Brand ($299) adds the brand playbook — positioning, messaging and a go-to-market plan — plus a design review.
